Meet the honorees whose generosity, leadership, and lifelong commitment have strengthened Bishop Moore Catholic and Catholic education throughout Central Florida.
Frances and Waymon Armstrong
We are excited to announce that Frances and Waymon Armstrong will be one of our honorees at this year’s Bishop Moore Catholic Legacy Gala.
It will come as no surprise to anyone who knows Waymon that he was voted “Most Spirited” by his classmates during his senior year in 1979. Waymon has always had a gift for making people feel known and welcomed; he truly does not know a stranger. And neither does his beautiful wife, Frances, who served on the Legacy Gala committee, retreat advisory, and more. Together, the Armstrongs embody kindness, generosity, and a genuine love for others.
Their welcoming spirit extends far beyond their family and friendships and into the many philanthropic efforts they support. The Armstrongs have always looked for meaningful ways to strengthen their community and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
In true Armstrong fashion, their generosity is marked by humility. When the family named the catering kitchen in the Moore Center in honor of beloved former Bishop Moore cafeteria team member Peg Rose, it was not about recognition for themselves; it was about honoring someone who gave so much to the students she served. They saw Peg’s hard work, compassion, and love for the Bishop Moore community and wanted to ensure her impact would be remembered.
The Armstrongs have also been instrumental in supporting the growth of the Computer Science program at Bishop Moore, recognizing the importance of preparing students for a rapidly changing world and creating opportunities for future generations.
“I would not have been able to attend Bishop Moore without my grandfather’s support and belief in Catholic education. He knew that right after my parent’s divorce that there was no better faith-based family environment to be in than Bishop Moore. He was right and I am so blessed and thankful for that sacrifice.”
For decades, Waymon and Frances Armstrong have lived out the values that define a true legacy: faith, service, humility, and a commitment to making the world around them a better place. Their generosity has touched countless lives, and Bishop Moore Catholic is grateful for the lasting impact of their love and support.

The Dunn Family
We are excited to announce that the members of the extended Dunn Family will be among our honorees at this year’s Bishop Moore Catholic Legacy Gala. We hope you will join us to celebrate this family whose legacy and impact continue to grow.
Bill and Mary Dunn moved their young family to Central Florida in 1951 and raised the Dunn children, Susan, Bill, and Rick, in Casselberry. They soon joined the nearest Catholic parish of St. Margaret Mary, where Mary Dunn became the first kindergarten teacher at the brand new St. Margaret Mary School. As the Dunn children got older, there was no doubt where they would be attending high school. Susan was the first Dunn Hornet, graduating in 1963. Bill III came next, graduating in 1965, followed by Rick in 1967.
For many years, Bill dropped his kids off at St. Margaret Mary and then Bishop Moore while on his way to work at Minute Maid. Mary became a Learning Disability Specialist with Seminole County Schools. She would later become the founder and Principal of Pace Brantley School, one of the first non-profit schools for learning differences in the state of Florida.
Bill III had an outstanding career as a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, and track), and Rick played on the first state championship team in Bishop Moore history (Baseball, 1967) and met his future wife, Becky Hormuth '68, one of the first Hornet mascots. Becky's cousins were members of the Bishop Moore graduating classes in the 50s.
Most importantly, the Bishop Moore legacy continued as the next generation became Hornets as well. Will '92 (BMC hall of fame member), Michael '95, and Stephen '00, state champion in soccer.
“There was never a doubt with my brother and me about where we wanted our kids to attend school. Catholic education was and still is second to none and continues to give a young person an amazing start in life”.
Bill III was very active in the alumni association and in the foundation of the Bishop Moore Athletic Hall of Fame. Rick was a member of the capital campaign committees to build Dorsey Hall, the gymnasium, and is a current steering committee member of the Center for the Arts.
Bill III's son Will and his wife Jeanie have faithfully supported Bishop Moore Catholic in many ways, including sponsoring and chairing the Legacy Gala, sharing their inspiring faith journey with students and adults, and establishing a campus chapter of Haddis Ministries. Through this partnership, students have the opportunity to support the Haddis mission of serving communities in Africa by helping provide resources and assistance to those living in poverty. Will and Rick together supported the Moore Center for Excellence by naming the training room.
The Hornet legacy continued with Aubrey Dunn '11, who now teaches first grade at St. Margaret Mary, Alleigh Dunn '21, Ethiopia Dunn '22, twins Liam & Kaylee Dunn '24, Mayla Dunn '25, Haben Dunn '27, Ethan Dunn '28, whose mother is Jen Steiner Dunn '94, and her daughter, Haley Dunn, who will be the next Hornet in 2032.
Get to Know the Dunn Family
Dr. Margaret E. Curran
We are excited to announce that our third and final honoree for this year's Legacy Gala is Dr. Margaret E. Curran. We hope you will join us to celebrate this remarkable woman who devoted her life to Catholic education.
For nearly a lifetime, Catholic education has been both a gift and a calling. As a beneficiary of Catholic education from first grade through college, Dr. Margaret Curran credits it with providing the foundation for her understanding of Catholic teachings and strengthening the faith formation that began in her home.
Her vocation as a Catholic educator began in 1968 when she taught 46 second-grade students in the South Bronx. In later years, she served as principal of All Souls Catholic School in Sanford, where she worked alongside the school community to transform a struggling school of barely 100 students into a thriving campus of more than 300 students with waiting lists in several grade levels. She attributes that growth to sharing the value of a Catholic education and helping families recognize it as a lifelong gift they could give their children.
In 1995, she was presented with the professional opportunity of a lifetime when the late Monsignor Caverly (pictured with Margaret) invited her to serve as the founding principal of the school he envisioned at Annunciation Catholic Church. Building the school from the ground up alongside an exceptional team of parishioners and staff remains her proudest professional accomplishment. Together, they created a Christ-centered environment that fostered a vibrant Catholic community while pursuing excellence in Catholic education. Under her leadership, the school earned full accreditation from the Florida Catholic Conference two years ahead of schedule and became the first elementary school in the Diocese to receive the prestigious Blue Ribbon School of Excellence designation from the United States Department of Education. The school also took great pride in preparing its graduates for success at Bishop Moore Catholic High School and beyond.
Beginning in 2008, Dr. Curran expanded her ministry internationally by traveling twice each year to the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic to provide educational training for teachers in seven rural schools. Many of the teachers had never received formal schooling themselves and were eager to learn classroom management techniques, effective strategies for teaching reading and mathematics, and methods for preparing and grading assignments. Helping these dedicated educators develop their skills was among the most rewarding experiences of her career.
Her commitment to Catholic education also extended well beyond the Diocese through her leadership with the National Catholic Educational Association from 1994 until her retirement from Annunciation in 2013. She first served as the regional representative for elementary education in the southeastern United States before being elected President of the Department of Elementary Schools and later vice chair of the Board of Directors. In these roles, she presented at conferences across the country, sharing best practices on the characteristics of effective Catholic schools as well as practical topics such as serving students with special needs, establishing capital replacement reserves, and working constructively with challenging parent situations.
Catholic education has shaped every stage of Dr. Curran's life. It has given her a lifetime of faith, purpose, and opportunity, and it continues to enrich her as she enjoys her golden years.
We are deeply grateful for Dr. Margaret Curran's lifelong dedication to forming students, mentoring educators, and strengthening Catholic schools. Countless lives have been enriched by her work, and her impact on Catholic education will be felt for years to come.

The Legacy Gala is Bishop Moore Catholic High School’s premier annual celebration of faith, mission, and community. Rooted in our Catholic identity, the Gala honors the men and women whose leadership, generosity, and witness have strengthened Catholic education across Central Florida.
Each year, we gather in gratitude to celebrate the enduring legacy of Bishop Moore Catholic and to invest in its future. Proceeds from the Gala support the BMC Fund, providing for the school’s greatest needs and ensuring that a transformative Catholic education remains accessible for years to come.
