Orlando Sports Medicine Group has been providing training services for Bishop Moore Catholic High School since 2006. Services include providing a Licensed Athletic Trainer on sight for all practices and games. Our training room is located in the rear of the gym and is equipped with state-of-the-art training and rehabilitation devices.
Orlando Sports Medicine Group also develops and implements our Sport Performance programs. These programs are offered during the summer for all sports and prior to winter and spring sports respectively to prepare athletes for their season.

Physical Night
Each May, BMC Athletics partners with Orlando Sports Medicine Group to conduct Physical Night for all aspiring Hornet athletes. This in-house sports physical costs $25 and encompasses the entire BMC athletic calendar, as it's valid for a full year. Join us for Physical Night 2024 on May 22nd to receive your sports physical and gain athletic clearance well in advance of your season!
Additionally, AdventHealth has partnered with Bishop Moore Catholic to provide for our medical needs including but not limited to orthopedic services at our games. AdventHealth makes sure there is a physician at all our home varsity football games, provides free clinics for our injured athletes every Monday in the fall, and once a month in the spring, provides physicians for our athletic physicals in May, and will also make presentations to our parents, students, and athletes on topics throughout the year. Dr. Sean Keyes is the primary contact physician for these services. Dr. Daniel Bedney and Dr. Katarina Backus will provide additional resources for our athletes.
Meet the Advent Health Team
Sean Keyes, DO is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty training in Pediatric Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine from Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center, consistently ranked as a Top 4 Children’s Hospital by US News and World Report. Dr. Keyes’ specialties include athletic injuries in the pediatric and adolescent athlete, trauma, and fracture management. Dr. Keyes has published academic works on topics including Pediatric ACL injuries and patellar instability and remains active in the research community.
Dr. Keyes is a graduate of Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. He received his medical training at Lincoln Memorial University – DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tennessee prior to completing an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Summa Western Reserve Hospital in Ohio. Dr. Keyes has performed complex limb deformity surgery for children during medical missions to Ahmedabad, India.
His passion for sports medicine extends beyond his practice and into our community. Dr. Keyes provides medical team coverage in conjunction with Florida Citrus Sports for college bowl games such as the Camping World Bowl, and the Florida Classic as well as a physician for Run Disney events.
Dr. Keyes, his wife – a teacher, and three young children are parishioners at St. Margaret Mary Church. The Keyes’ has a strong family tradition of wrestling stemming from Ohio with State Championships, multiple medalists, and high school All-American status. They look to continue their involvement in the wrestling community through our local Catholic Youth Sports.
He is excited to combine his faith with his love for taking care of young athletes at Bishop Moore. He recognizes the importance and positive influence a strong relationship with God and sports can have on our youth. He knows this because he utilized his passion for sports and his faith in God to help him with all his accomplishments.
Daniel Bedney, MD, is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician with fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine and strong ties to the Central Florida community. An honors graduate of Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL, he earned his medical degree at Loma Linda University in California prior to undertaking his residency training as part of the Florida Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Winter Park. He completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, where he also served as a team physician for the Nashville Rollergirls, Fisk University, and Tennessee State University.
He currently practices Primary Care Sports Medicine with Florida Hospital Medical Group and is a team physician for the Lakeland Magic. He is a proud husband and enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, a Florida native, and physician. He is excited to provide care to the athletes at Bishop Moore as he has a passion for connecting with young athletes and helping them form habits to become successful both on the field and in life.
Katerina Backus, MD, FAAP, CAQSM is a board-certified sports medicine physician at Florida Center for Pediatric Orthopaedics. She is one of only a few select physicians to have achieved a patient satisfaction rating in the 99th percentile from surveys conducted by Press Ganey since 2013, and has earned multiple awards for her outstanding academic achievements. Her specialties include pediatric sports injuries, nonoperative musculoskeletal injuries, and concussion management. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Richmond, she attended Medical School at the University of Maryland, where she received a Gudelsky Foundation Scholarship and AHEPA Nick Cost Scholarship.
Dr. Backus completed her internship and residency training in Pediatrics at the University of Florida/Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville before embarking on a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Backus held dual appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Orthopaedics as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UF College of Medicine, and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at UCF College of Medicine. She received her Master Clinical Educator Certificate from the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Backus was instrumental in the implementation of the UF Sports Concussion Program and has continued her involvement in concussion care with the Florida Hospital Sports Concussion Program.
Dr. Backus was formerly the Team Physician for St. Francis Catholic High School during her time in Gainesville and is currently the Team Physician for Flight Gymnastics in Ormond Beach, and the Co-Team Physician for Bishop Moore Catholic School athletics, along with Dr. Keyes & Bedney.
Dr. Backus is committed to patient and family-centered, quality, and compassionate care, and the prevention and treatment of sports injuries.
