Our Symbols
Motto
Virtus et Scientia
(Virtue and Knowledge)
Virtue: The character, citizenship
Knowledge: The education
These words together define our formation and education.
Mascot
Harry the Hornet
Harry the Hornet is BMC’s loveable mascot who embodies school spirit. Harry is the head cheerleader at sporting events, pep rallies, and other celebrations where we celebrate school spirit.
Athletics Hornet
Our Hornet is based on the Georgia Tech yellowjacket wasp. BMC has a detailed contract with Georgia Tech that allows us to use the likeness and image of their Hornet.
Alma Mater
With faith that's everlasting,
And love that's ever true,
We pledge thee, Alma Mater,
Our loyalty to you.
Our spirit is undaunted,
Our hearts are ever bold,
Oh Bishop Moore we praise thee,
And Hail the Black & Gold!
The term “Alma Mater” means caring mother. This is appropriate because when we think of our alma mater we conjure feelings of reverence and loyalty for the nurturing qualities the school provides.
Seal & Crest
The Bishop Moore Catholic seal is symbolic of our ideals and principles. The Latin phrase "Virtus et Scientia" is translated to mean virtue and knowledge. The heart represents charity while the violets represent humility. The triangle symbolizes the Blessed Trinity. The lily in the left-hand corner represents purity; the carpenter's square symbolizes Saint Joseph, the patron saint of the Sisters of Saint Joseph who teach at Bishop Moore.
Patron Saint
Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Saint Joseph was chosen as BMC’s patron saint. Saint Saint Joseph is our spiritual father and the perfect role model of how to care for one another. St. Joseph is a reliable companion walking alongside you.
OUR TRADITIONS
Senior Week
A time-honored tradition that BMC Hornets look forward to since freshman year is Senior Week. Activities surrounding senior week include: Senior ride on campus, gold shirt signing, final Mass in the Pines, and Senior Games.
Rock Walk
On the football retreat at the beginning of each season, each football player selects a rock and writes his name and 1Moore (for the Glory of God) on the rock. That rock is placed at the altar during Mass and blessed. At the end of the Mass, each player picks up a random rock and the person’s name on this rock is who the player prays for all year. Before every home game, each player takes their rock and places it at the foot of the cross on the field.
