Sacred Spaces
1. St. Joseph Chapel
At the heart of our campus is our St. Joseph Chapel; the original chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph who founded BMC in 1954. The chapel is the most sacred of spaces, as the Blessed Sacrament is reserved there. Renovated in 2022, our St. Joseph Chapel has a beautiful display of stained-glass windows depicting the Stations of the Cross.
2. Marian Grotto
The Grotto is a sacred place dedicated to Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Grace. From the cross, Jesus gave the entire world his own mother as our own (Jn.19), so Mary is present on our campus as a companion in the lives and journeys of our students and teachers.
3. Stations of the Cross
In 2024, we were gifted a custom set of Stations of the Cross from the Basilica of Mary Queen of the Universe. The 14 stations provide a powerful reflection on the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, which is central to our Catholic faith.
4. St. Martin de Porres Statue
St. Martin de Porres is a 17th century saint from Lima, Peru. He is the patron saint of racial harmony, people of color, and people of mixed race. Martin is known for his humble service of the poor and sick, even risking his own life to serve those in need. (Donated by Las Avispas and the Spanish National Honor Society.)
5. The Pieta
This replica of the famous Michelangelo statue remembers the heartbreaking moment when Mary received the lifeless body of her Son after his crucifixion. This moment points to the reality of suffering and heartbreak in each one of our lives. Just like Mary, we bring those experiences to God the Father, and he gives us the final hope of the resurrection (Donated by the King family).
6. Sacred Heart
This statue, depicting Jesus exposing his Sacred Heart, was donated in memory of Elizabeth Logan, a Bishop Moore student who died tragically in a car accident in 1991. A quote from St. Margaret Mary at the bottom of the statue reads, “I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus.”
7. Our Lady of Guadalupe & Peace Pole
Behind our Mary Martha building, stands a BMC Peace Pole and a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe, painted by our very own art teacher, Rachel Meyers. The story of Gudalupe and the Peace Pole are deeply connected, as Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531 in present day Mexico City, calling for a culture of life and peace to take root, by turning to her Son, the Prince of Peace. The Peace Pole is a multicultural symbol that reminds us to pray for peace - both in our own hearts and in the world around us
8. St. Cecilia Statue
St. Cecilia is the patron of musicians and singers. This sacred space was created by recent BMC graduate, Ryan Schefstad, as part of his Eagle Scout project. St. Cecilia is traditionally believed to be a martyr from the 3rd century, who “sang in her heart to the Lord” on her wedding day.
9. Outdoor Chapel
Our Outdoor Chapel is a sacred space reserved for prayer and reflection. Various Masses are celebrated throughout the year in our Outdoor Chapel, including our alumni Masses and our final “Senior Mass in the Pines,” an annual tradition.
10. Memorial Stadium Crosses
Home to a number of our athletic programs, Memorial Stadium is a place of competitive excellence. At the heart of all that we do at BMC is our Catholic faith. Especially on our athletic fields, we raise the most powerful symbol in our faith - the cross - as a reminder that we do all things with Christ and for his greater glory. It is also important to note that the crosses hold a special place in the heart of our BMC football program, as before each game the team performs the ceremonial “rock walk,” in which they carry a teammate’s rock in prayer and place it at the foot of the cross.
11. Mary Statue
This statue of our Blessed Mother is a gentle reminder of Mary’s presence in each one of our lives.
12. Sacred Heart Statue
This statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the first things people see as they drive onto campus. Jesus has his arms open and heart exposed, welcoming each person that comes to Bishop Moore Catholic High School.
13. Large Silver Cross
There are two large silver crosses on our campus - by the Moore Center for Excellence and near the Student Center. These crosses are landmarks that remind us why we do what we do. Christ is at the center of all things at BMC and these crosses are a reminder that “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13).
14. Mary Statue
This Mary statue welcomes all those who enter our Moore Center for Excellence. Mary shows us how to be faithful in all things, including our love for sports and our pursuit of excellence in all that we do.
15. Sacred Heart Statue
This new statue of Jesus is found in the middle of Bishop Grady Hall, by the stairwell. Like the other statues of Jesus, it shows Jesus’ heart which is the true compass that guides our mission here at Bishop Moore Catholic.
16. Mural of the Holy Family
Painted by BMC alum Pete Pasha ‘77, this mural of the The Holy Family serves as a model for families of faithfulness, forgiveness, and obedience to God.
17. Crucifix
A powerful symbol that serves as a reminder of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and represents the core beliefs and values of Catholicism. When we look at a crucifix, it is never without the awareness that Christ’s suffering ended in the victory of the resurrection. A crucifix hangs in our Moore Center, the gymnasium, and in every classroom and office space.
